I’ve researched online and found some crazy online businesses that reportedly rake in a good income. I hope this inspires you or at the very least gets you thinking outside of the box.

  • http://www.pickydomains.com/ If you are good with words, you could make money on this site by signing-up as a contributor. Clients looking for a name for their website, sign-up and deposit $50 along with specifications. Contributors submit their ideas and the client picks one. The contributor whose idea was selected collects half the fee. If no suggestions are picked, the client gets a refund. Great online business idea.

  • http://cakewrecks.blogspot.com/ Visit this blog for pics and comments on the latest ugly cakes. You’ll get a laugh and you can buy the Cake Wreck ‘NYT bestseller book’.

  • http://www.hungrypod.com/ Send your iPod and favorite old music CDs to this site and they will not only feed it to your iPod (hence the name), but also back-up your music collection onto a DVD in case of iPod fatalities.

  • http://www.milliondollarhomepage.com/ Back in 2006, Alex Tew in England sold 1 million pixels from his website page at $1 each to various advertisers in order to cover his university costs. The result? $1 million in his pocket and a busy one page website billboard. Check out his site & look-up his story on Wikipedia. Ingenious!

  • http://www.doggles.com/ Keeping with the pet theme, this company sells dog goggles. They now only sell to stores.

  • http://www.prairietumbleweedfarm.com/ This family run business sells tumbleweeds online all over the US and many countries overseas. Clients include production companies for TV shows, movies and magazine shoots.

  • http://origamiboulder.com/ I saved the weirdest one for last. Is this a real business or a joke? Supposedly this site makes money, but I can’t verify that. On this site, you order origami art, which turns out to be a rolled up wad of paper in a box created by a rude person. You can get it with Haiku or the performance art version, where the artist crumples up the paper and throws it in the trash can, then emails you about it.

Hope you enjoyed this entry. Know of any wacky online businesses? Add  them to the comments section. I’d love to read about them!
